A total of 13 contributions for the thesis award were submitted and evaluated, covering a wide variety of topics.

The winning thesis addresses a subject which is of utmost concern for all companies involved in international business. It is a topic which is very often mentioned when it comes to business with Russia and many other emerging economies, but can be very hard to find objective facts about. And this thesis gives a valuable contribution to our understanding of systemic corruption and the conditions many firms face when doing business in Russia.

The thesis analyzes the EU-Russian relations in respect of what impact Russia ́s annexation of Crimea 2014 has had on EU ́s energy security policy as well as on the decarbonization efforts afterwards. The theme has indeed an obvious topicality. Besides giving indications of how Russia ́s ongoing military aggression further might impact on EU ́s energy security policies the thesis also contains a useful bibliography for further studies in this field. The thesis is the result of solid scholarly research based on a robust and widely accepted methodology.

We congratulate Jana Paegle for an excellent contribution to a better understanding of this topic! We wish her all success in her further endeavors and careers!
